Patrick "Pat" McDonnell (born 18 March 1950) is an Irish retired hurler who played as a full-back for the Cork senior team. Born in Aghabullogue, County Cork, McDonnell first excelled at sport during his schooling at Presentation Brothers College. He arrived on the inter-county scene at the age of eighteen when he first linked up with the Cork minor team before later joining the under-21 and intermediate sides. He made his senior debut during the 1969-70. McDonnell immediately became a regular member of the starting fifteen and won two All-Ireland medals, five Munster medals and two National Hurling League medals. He was an All-Ireland runner-up on one occasion. As a member of the Munster inter-provincial team on a number of occasions, McDonnell won one Railway Cup medal as a non-playing substitute. At club level he is a one-time championship medallist with University College Cork. In addition to this he also lined out Inniscarra and Muskerry. Throughout his career McDonnell made 20 championship appearances. His retirement came following the conclusion of the 1978 championship. In retirement from playing McDonnell became involved in team management and coaching.
